Distribution of interstitial cells of Cajal and nerve fibers in rat stomach in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetes mellitus

Diabetic peristalsis disorders are common complications in diabetes mellitus type 2. Disturbance of interstitial cells Cajal (ICC) caused by metabolic changes could explain the symptoms diabetic gastroenteropathy. Although heterogenous cell types represent only 5% population muscle layer gastrointestinal tract (GIT), they important for conducting electrical signals and regulating excitability. The aim this study was to investigate alterations myenteric intramuscular ICCs gaster rats with 2 (DMT2), as well determine their distribution relation smooth enteric nerve structures. Male Wistar were used DT2 induced streptozotocin-nicotinamide (STZ-NA) application. stomach specimens exposed III transmembrane tyrosine kinase (c-KIT), neurofilament (NF-M) protein desmin antibodies ICC, neurons cells. Morphological quantified numerical areal density ICC score volume fibers. In conclusion, a statistically significant decrease number without fiber loss observed all regions STZ-NA-induced DMT2.
